The following biographic elements of Papadiamantis are drawn from the Greek scholar N. D. Triantaphyllopoulous. Alexander Papadiamantis was an eminent Greek modern novelist and poet. He was born on the small Greek island Skiathos in 1851. He was the elder son of a priest, and he attended primary school on Skiathos and on another small Greek island, Skopelos. Later he came to Athens, where he finished high school. At that time, he wrote and published his first poem in a magazine.

Afterwards, he studied at Athens University, but he did not graduate. In 1874 his first novel, The Metanastis (“The Emigrant”), was published in the newspaper. Papadiamantis wrote for newspapers and magazines and translated English books and Shakespeare from English to Greek.

In 1903 he published the novel The Murderess in a magazine, and in 1908 he returned to Skiathos, where he lived and died in 1910.

Martha Alifanti was born in Athens, Greece. While an artist and a sculptor, she studied at Rose Bruford College by Manchester University, where she received a bachelor of arts degree in theatre studies. She also attended arts courses by Christie’s.

She has carried out a deep thorough in India, Bombay, about the Contemporary India Theatre in Comparison to Traditional Indian Themes. She involved herself in making costumes and settings not only for the specific performances, but she also reproduces these on canvas and gave them dimensions through her sculpture.
