by Dr. Myland Brown

Pure Butter originated in 1933, and publication has taken a career. A career of forty-five years (1959-2004) continuously has rendered this book warranted, necessary, and called for. Quality education for school children (grades 1-12) has declined for several decades. A "new day" attitude of the American general public appears to be attached to a "new way" of teaching students.

This book's focus is about time-proven ingredients for success. Young people are no longer motivated, but Pure Butter will motivate them. Churches have discontinued teaching values, and so this publication will serve as a constant reminder of church responsibility. The living environments of too many teenagers have become dens of immorality and low self-esteem. Much needed help is recorded. Classroom teachers have gradually forgotten how to teach. Preoccupied with disruptive students daily, constant criticism from non-supportive parents, and efforts to be effective teachers are futile.

Pure Butter promotes thinking in a down-to-earth poetic way, discussing problems faced by the teenage and adult world. A teaspoonful of Pure Butter will answer these questions to the benefit of the reader. What is happening? Why is it happening? What are the consequences?

This book will fill a void left by the "Old Village" that existed in home, church, and school. Too many "caretakers" of the earth have abandoned truth (rules) and accepting exceptions to the rules. Using artificial solutions for today is the same as cooking without pure butter. Mankind must return to truth. We must be true to the product, true to life.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Myland Brown lived his childhood as a cotton-picker, which became the primary source of income necessary to purchase books and clothing for school. For several years, kerosene lamps were the only light source at his home, but this did not dwarf his enthusiasm for learning.

When he completed high school, college wasn't an open opportunity for him, but as if a miracle developed, an offer to attend Alabama State College on a work-study scholarship was his ticket. Dr. Brown earned his bachelor and master's degrees from ASC, Montgomery, Alabama. A Doctoral teaching Fellowship at Ball State University led to a doctorate degree (Ed.D.) in 1968. The work-study scholarship to ASC initiated a distinguished forty-five years in education, from 1959 to 2004.

Dr. Brown's ethnic origin attracted all the racial barriers peculiar to the United States. The military draft rescued him for two years (1953-1955) from the U.S. at large. An honorable discharge was received from the United States Army upon completion of my duty as a military policeman.

Reader Review
Many of the behaviors children get away with today would not have been allowed during his upbringing, said Brown, who grew up in the 1930s. Brown said values are not being instilled. He said when youngsters are left to their own devices, they sometimes adopt bad habits that determine a person’s future.
