In our modern world, many grandparents live far from their grandchildren. When the author’s second grandchild was announced, he started writing poems to this tiny being still en utero. For him, as it is with many others, his own daughter was the most beautiful expectant mother since Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Triggered by regular reports and infrequent visits, he continues to write poems since his granddaughter’s birth three years ago. During this most formative period in a child’s life, climaxed by the family’s move from city to farm, he has expressed poetically and universally his insight into the challenges and development of all children.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Harold B. Confer started writing poetry while a student at Earlham School of Religion in their Ministry in Writing curriculum at age sixty-two. He has two published books of poetry, “Finding My Voice” and “A Quaker Voice For Peace.” Prior to writing, he worked as a builder, teacher (in America and Tanzania), lobbyist for the Quakers, and a firefighter for the Forest Service. He is the director of Ufufuo!, a nonprofit organization that recruits interfaith and international volunteers to help rebuild after disasters. His writing flows from his life experiences and those of his wife, June, and their international family.
