by John R. Conrad
John R. Conrad gravitated to fiction writing after a long and varied career in broadcasting and several small business ventures. Born and raised in the South Chicago suburb of Blue Island, Illinois, Conrad began his radio career when he was eighteen as a tour guide at WNBQ, the National Broadcasting Company affiliate in Chicago. After his first assignment as a radio announcer at KTSM in El Paso, Texas, and service in the Navy during World War II, Conrad returned to Chicago to become a staff announcer at WNBQ, where he shared the microphone with several future stars of TV, including Dave Garraway, Hugh Downs, and Mike Douglas. After twenty three years with NBC, Conrad moved to Southern California in 1968 and ran successful enterprises including rent-a-car, air purification, and the direct marketing of a patented hand creme for the medical profession. Conrad began writing after retirement in 1995 and currently resides in Westlake Village, California, with his wife Lydia.
